LIFE – Let It Flow Easy!!
Its one of the famous quotes of Wayne Dyer – “Change your thoughts, change your life.”
We all have a Mind. Our Mind produces thoughts. It is scientifically established that on an average a human mind ( rather an untrained mind like mine and yours) produces around 60,000-80,000 or more in 24 hours. That’s like 2000-3000 thoughts every 60 minutes. Out of those, 90% are repetitive thoughts and 85% are negative thoughts. I reckon that is precisely why the Masters say that we just continue to recycle our own internal garbage (which very often stinks). And this Mind chatter starts with the moment we open our eyes – the first thing that we do after waking up is have a thought. That thought could be anything – from the list of chores to be done, to check our phones, emails, news, social media etc or even a post mortem analysis of our dreams that we remember. And it continues till we finally hit the sack.
Neuro scientifically, in simple words, every thought activates one or the other neuron which produces some chemical / electric impulse. Certain chemicals (the myelin sheath) are produced during to enable transmission of information which is then processed by the brain as emotions. They say whatever gets fired, gets wired . Based on the kind of thoughts, the emotions could be happy or sad, positive or negative or in common understanding what triggers the flight or fight response.
This is further obvious, when we understand how learning takes place in humans. We only learn through repetition. Whatever gets repeated, becomes part of our memory. And thus every time, a thought is repeated, it becomes more ingrained and becomes part of our memory.
Simplify it further, our thoughts create our feelings / emotions ( energy in motion). Our actions are in response to those feelings. Since 90% of our thoughts are nothing new, and over a period of time through cell memory or genetic memory, our responses to our thoughts are the same. It is but natural that our experience of our life would be nothing new, considering the quality of our thoughts. In a way, our thinking pre-determines our future. So if the thought is about a past event, happy or sad, it is easy to determine our feelings and thus easy to understand our experience of the present moment.
It is this pattern of thinking that becomes our belief system, that defines our perspective, that defines our perception, our judgements, our idea of life and thus our life experience.
This quote from wise teacher Lao Tzu thus makes total sense – “Watch your thoughts, they become your words; watch your words, they become your actions; watch your actions, they become your habits; watch your habits, they become your character; watch your character, it becomes your destiny.”
